The album that arguably put Green Day on the map and brought punk rock back into the mainstream ‘Dookie’ is nearly a quarter of a century old and we can’t help but reminisce about some of the absolute certified bangers that came off this record.
From the much loved ‘Basket Case’ which still is a regular feature on many of this writer’s playlists, to ‘Welcome to Paradise’ and ‘When I Come Around’. This is definitely an album you need to re-listen to if it’s been a while, and just remember how good Green Day are as well as marvel at how long they have been going strong for now, considering this was their third album that came out on the 1st of February, 1994.
The Weekly Playlist is back again for another week, featuring a variety of rock music from the latest releases to some absolute classics you may not have listened to in a while.
This week we have new releases from Frank Turner, Roam and Waterparks, as well as the latest single from Weezer called ‘Happy Hour’ which will feature on their new album Pacific Daydream. We also have classics from Guns N Roses, Metallica and Van Halen which was also a cracking track to play on Guitar Hero with the banging solo at the beginning of the song.
Also introducing Finn Doherty to this week’s playlist with his song ‘Bruv’ a singer/songwriter local to Norwich and North London.

With Download making an announcement of a coming announcement, our minds began to wonder and get curious on who it could be that will be heading up rock’s biggest UK festival, Download 2018. So here is a list of 5 bands we would love to see announced in just over a week’s time:
1.Guns N’ Roses
They have recently been selling out Madison Square Gardens for 3 nights in a row and it’s a dream for many fans out there that Slash and Axl have finally resolved their differences and gotten the band back together.
Currently still on their ‘Not in this Lifetime’ tour, which surely was a saying many had said about the band getting back together and that Axl did say in 2012. They have only played 2 nights in the UK for this tour, so surely a big festival appearance is in order. Download love having a night or two for one of the big classic rock bands to head up with Aerosmith taking the Sunday last year and Maiden and Black Sabbath both playing in 2016, so is it the complete Guns N’ Roses turn next year?
Sweet Child O’ Mine…Had to be done…
2. Metallica
Currently in the UK touring their latest album Hardwired to Self-Destruct it seems like it would be a sure thing for these legends of heavy metal to be claiming a headline slot next summer and there isn’t really much more I can say that you don’t know already.
It’s been over 5 years now since the band has visited Donnington, where Black Sabbath and The Prodigy headlined the days around them, so it’s about time the founding members of the big four made an appearance.
3. Royal Blood
Would be new comers to headlining Download and it’s hard to reason why they couldn’t claim a headline slot on the bill. Since their debut self titled album, Royal Blood have been one of the biggest rock bands going and that’s only been boosted with their follow up How Did We Get So Dark?
Although it still maybe a little premature for them to take to the main stage at one of the biggest rock festivals going it’s still something that could happen and would be a big draw for many hearing ‘Little Monster’ blasted in Leicestershire.
4. Foo Fighters
So with the likes of The Prodigy, Biffy Clyro, Avenged Sevenfold and Muse all previously headlining, it’s hard to believe that the Foos have never claimed a headline spot. Although they have headlined many UK festivals such as Glasto last year, it’s a crime that they have never done the same at Download.
Recently releasing Concrete and Gold it would be the perfect time to make their debut performance at Donington and finally right a wrong that has just gone on for far too long now.
5. Green Day
They headlined the French Download festival last year as well as British Summertime Festival, and you would be hard pressed to say they shouldn’t headline the big one this year.
Releasing a greatest hits album later this year would give a perfect excuse for them to take to the stage and deliver a greatest hits set that would get the whole crowd singing. I know I would love to see ‘Basket Case’ performed on the main stage.
Let us know who you would like to see announced to headline Download?
The This Is Noise Weekly Playlist is back for another week and it features a little bit of everything to meet all tastes.
This week we have new songs from Marmozets and Theory of a Deadman. We also have the latest single released by Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds ‘Holy Mountain’ which see’s the former Oasis guitarist go down a slightly different route but it’s bloody catchy, especially the whistle, he promised it would get stuck in your head and he wasn’t wrong.
We also feature some classics from Feeder and Letlive, as well as bringing back the massive hardcore band Your Demise, with arguably one of their greatest songs they released whilst they were still together ‘The Kids We Used To Be…’ although it was hard to choose between that and ‘Life of Luxury’.
Check out the playlist below:

Rise Against – Intro/Chamber of the Cartridge

We wouldn’t want to be the one picking the songs to go on to this one!
Green Day have announced they will be releasing a greatest hits compilation called ‘God’s Favourite Band’ which will be released on November 17th.
This album art is brilliant!
The album will feature 18 of some of the best Green Day songs made throughout their extensive careers which will include classics such as ‘Basket Case’ to ‘Bang Bang’ from their latest album ‘Revolution Radio’
The album will also include 2 new songs at the end of album, one called ‘Back to the USA’ and an alternative version of ‘Ordinary World’ featuring country singer Miranda Lambert.
The full track list can be seen below:
This is definitely an album we will be asking for at Christmas!
